Meet The Coaches

Steve Wood

Coach Steve Wood is a veteran Texas high school football coach with more than two decades of experience and a reputation for building championship programs. He joined Aledo High School in 2002 as the defensive coordinator, serving in that role through 2014 and helping lead the Bearcats to four UIL State Championships in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013. In 2014, Coach Wood was named head coach and led the program for five seasons, compiling an outstanding 75–4 record and capturing three additional state titles in 2014, 2016, and 2018, along with a state runner-up finish in 2017. In 2019, he served as athletic director while the program continued its success with state championships in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Over his 21 years at Aledo, Coach Wood was part of 11 state championship teams as the Bearcats set the UIL record for the most titles in program history. In recognition of his impact on the school and community, Aledo ISD named its athletic facility the Steve Wood Complex.

During that time, his offenses produced the state’s top receiver in four different seasons and, in one season, the state’s leading rusher. His innovative offensive systems have consistently averaged more than 35 points per game, breaking multiple school records and earning honors such as District Coaching Staff of the Year.

Coach Ware also serves as Offensive Coordinator for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, where he calls plays and helps lead coaching personnel alongside nationally recognized football figures including Emmitt Smith, Houston Nutt, and Noel Mazzone.
