Brian Johnson joined the SCS community as the president and head of school in July 2016, bringing with him nearly three decades of experience in school administration and a passion for sharing the Gospel. Mr. Johnson’s led three schools as a head of school and previously served as a principal, dean, and assistant director of admission. An ardent supporter of the arts, he’s taught history, English, art history, and speech. He’s also coached more than 40 seasons of football, wrestling, lacrosse, and crew. Mr. Johnson’s been active in youth ministry in his home churches and Young Life, while his commitment to global missions has taken him to Mexico, Cuba, India, and Nepal.
Along with teaching and coaching, Mr. Johnson loves learning. A 1986 graduate of Stanford University, he earned master’s degrees in education and business administration from Harvard and the University of North Carolina, respectively. He’s also taken extensive coursework for pleasure and personal growth at several universities—Wesleyan (CT), Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and American—as well as at Moody Bible Institute. Prior to his career in education, Mr. Johnson served in the US Army as an Apache pilot, attack helicopter platoon leader, and staff officer. He and his wife, Cindy, have three wonderful children: Kyle, Luke, and Quinn.
