IRA Charitable Rollover Available Through December 31, 2011
Congress has extended the IRA charitable rollover through December 31, 2011. If you are 70 ½ or older, this allows you to transfer (free of tax) up to $100,000.00 directly from your IRA to a qualified charitable organization. Contact your IRA custodian for advice and directions to begin your transfer.
Requirements and restrictions for making this gift:
- 70 ½ years of age or older.
- Gift must be made directly from the IRA to a qualified charitable organization. Funds cannot be issued to the IRA holder.
- Total contribution cannot exceed $100,000.00.
- Gift must be outright.
- Gift cannot be made to fund a charitable life-income agreement, donor advised fund, or supporting organization.
- Your gift is not included in your taxable income and no charitable income tax-deduction is allowed.
- Gifts from a 401(k), 403 (b), and 457 plan gifts are not permitted. Gift can only be made from an IRA.
