President’s Circle Dinner
September 14, 2009
Fort Worth Club
This year’s President’s Circle Dinner was held at the Fort Worth Club on September 14. The evening provided us with the opportunity to celebrate what God is doing and will continue to do at Southwest Christian School as well as honor our many families, friends, grandparents, and others who have generously supported SCS at the President’s Circle level. Over the past forty years SCS has been blessed with the support and dedication of many individuals.
“Past, Present, and Future” was the theme for the evening in celebration of the fortieth anniversary of Southwest Christian School. In addition to honoring our President’s Circle level donors at this year’s event, many past and present SCS presidents, board members, founding mothers, and others who were instrumental in making SCS what it is today were recognized and thanked for their dedication and commitment to the mission of SCS.
Raymond King, current SCS Board of Trustees member, opened the evening in prayer followed by dinner and a showing of the SCS fortieth anniversary video.
Dr. Armstrong began the program by introducing our special guests and talked of God’s blessings upon SCS. She reinforced that our mission and vision was always to honor God and send out Christian leaders into the world. During this fortieth anniversary year, she stated, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future.
Sharron Drury, former SCS President, and the current Chairman of Snelson Oil and Lighting, shared some of her humorous and touching experiences. Mrs. Drury shared that being the President of SCS was an opportunity of a lifetime and she was continually amazed at the “never give up” attitude and persistence to achieve success of the faculty, staff, and students. God richly blessed SCS during her years of leadership with the school.
Joseph DeWoody, current President of the SCS Alumni Association, thanked everyone for their investment in the future of the children at SCS. He shared how his thirteen years at SCS greatly shaped his life and taught him perseverance and goal setting. Joseph believes he is who he is today because of the Christian influence of the faculty and staff and his years spent at SCS.
Martha Creighton, SCS Senior, and the SCS Choir under the direction of Ellie Lin provided entertainment for the evening. Martha blessed us with piano music during the registration and reception part of the evening and again following the Annual Fund Appeal. The attendees were also blessed by the SCS Choir presentation of “How Great Thou Art” and “Love in Any Language”.
Tom Mueller, SCS Executive Vice President, presented the 2009 Annual Fund appeal by sharing the incredible opportunity we have to join God in what He is doing at SCS and to invest in the lives of the students. He shared with those in attendance that we are “standing on the shoulders” of those who have gone before us and they are cheering us on so that those who come behind us will “find us faithful”.
As the event came to a close, Steve Haskins, SCS Board of Trustees Vice Chairman, concluded the evening with prayer.
