Capital Campaign

This is an exciting time in the history of Southwest Christian School. We are now poised to build upon the vision established by the original group of mothers in 1969 and carried forward by the SCS family over the last 40 years. A strategic plan to address the future of the school has been made. In January 2009, “Fulfilling the Mission” was launched to fund projects important to advancing the mission of the school.

  • Land Acquisition - $2,600,000 - Southwest Christian School has the opportunity to purchase 20 acres of land adjacent to the preparatory school. This land will ensure space is available for future facilities and for the construction of a track and softball field. In addition, new parking lots and access roads will be constructed to accommodate increasing on-campus traffic, and most importantly, ensure safety and convenience for parents, students, faculty, and staff.

    • The land will provide:
    • Space for additional academic facilities (i.e. middle school)
    • Space for an athletic track and softball field
    • Space for additional parking

  • Multi-Purpose Center - $5,000,000 - As SCS continues to expand, the need for a self-contained middle school building is paramount. The addition of a Multi-Purpose Center will provide facilities where seventh and eighth graders can thrive in an environment designed specifically for middle school students. A gym, within this facility will allow middle school athletic training independent from the high school students. The proposed cafetorium (combination cafeteria and auditorium) will provide practice and performance space for the expanding fine arts program on the Prep Campus, as well as a comfortable area for the students to eat and socialize during their lunch time.

    • The Multi-Purpose Center will include the following:
    • Regulation size basketball and volleyball courts
    • Cafeteria shared by high school and middle school
    • Auditorium for meetings and performances
    • State-of-the-art classrooms

  • Bond Reduction - $4,000,000 - Invest in the future by paying off the past! The bond enabled us to build the new elementary school building and renovate the existing structure, complete the second floor of the new high school building, install a state-of-the-art athletic field for athletic events and practice, and to complete the Black Box Theatre. Retiring the bond would free operating funds to allow us to continue expanding academic programming, to hire additional faculty for athletics, fine arts, and core curriculum classes, and to support ongoing facilities maintenance and improvements.

  • Chapel - $2,400,000 - In 1993, when ground was broken on the Benbrook Lake property, it was the dream to one day offer a chapel; a chapel lined with windows allowing the beauty of the lake to be seen. The time is now for this dream to become a reality. Envision a chapel dedicated to worshiping our Lord and supporting the vision of providing a “Christ centered-college preparatory education”. In addition, the facility will provide space for our Performing Arts to welcome families and the community to come together and enjoy the many yearly productions.

The preceding dollar amounts reflect current prices and best estimates that can be made with information currently available and do not reflect inflation or other unforeseen factors that may alter final costs. Bonds will be sold if the campaign goal is not reached.

The SCS board and administration are committed to achieving the vision goal of $14 million to provide for the land acquisition, construction of the multi-purpose center, debt reduction, and the addition of a chapel. To assure fiscal responsibility, achievement of this vision will be through a phased approach. This phased approach, however, provides the opportunity for donations to accelerate the achievement of this vision.

    Phase One:
  • Land acquisition - $2,600,000
  • Multi-Purpose Center - $5,000,000
Funding for Phase 1 will be achieved through the Fulfilling the Mission capital campaign with a working goal of $3.9 million and bank financing.
    Phase Two:
  • Bond Reduction - $4,000,000
  • Chapel - $2,400,000

Funding for Phase 2 will be achieved through a future capital campaign, special donations and gifts to these projects, and financing, as deemed prudent by the Board of Trustees.

SCS has received 100% faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees support as well as the support of many SCS families and friends. We would like to thank those who have contributed and will contribute to the capital campaign for their friendship and support. Thank you for expanding the impact of SCS in the lives of our students and in the lives of everyone in the community.
