Celebrating 40 years of Christian education last year was a milestone for Southwest Christian which allowed us to reflect on the blessings and provisions God has poured out on our school throughout its history. As we begin our 2010-2011 school year, we do so with our eyes set on the goal of building on our rich tradition of excellence in education. Specifically, we ask God for guidance in directing our decisions for educating our students in a way that encourages critical thinking to solve problems that don’'t yet exist.
There are several notable curriculum adjustments beginning this year aimed at strengthening our award winning academic programs. Technology integration will continue to be emphasized as we focus efforts on incorporating technology-driven projects in our core classes. This intentional integration not only assists in keeping our students current on the application of useful technologies, it concurrently aids in the learning processes of math, science, social studies and language arts.
Additionally, we are excited to add French and Creative Ministries to our middle school offerings. 7th grade students will have French included in their World Language rotation, while 8th graders have the option of taking French I for high school credit. Creative Ministries will be a fine arts offering where students interested in the planning and production of our weekly chapels can contribute under the direction of our Bible Department. This will be yet another way for students to engage in taking ownership of SCS student and spiritual life.
As always, we will continue to focus our spiritual and social efforts on the principles of empathy and respect through a Christian worldview. We know that, developmentally, the middle school years can provide challenges for all of us when it comes to feelings of egocentrism and belonging. There is no better time in life to discuss and apply God’s design of putting others first than right now during pre-adolescence!
We ask that you join with us in partnering for another exciting year of SCS Middle School. We look forward to serving you and your family as we seek to honor God in all we do. May God continue to bless you, your family, and our community in our calling to graduate young adults as Christian leaders in the world.
