Learning Lab
The Learning Lab program is designed to encourage and support struggling students diagnosed with a learning disability and/or Attention Deficit Disorder. The Learning Lab program does not offer a separate curriculum. The purpose is to guide each student to achieve satisfactory progress and grade level expectations within the established SCS curriculum.
The Learning Lab program supports students by:
- Creating a positive, accepting atmosphere that minimizes frustration
- Monitoring weekly grade reports in each academic subject, discussing strategies for improvement with student, and contacting parents/teachers when necessary
- Providing a liaison between the student, teachers, parents, and administration on behalf of the student
- Allowing extended time on tests and in-class essays with the stipulation that all work must be completed in the same day
- Providing availability of Learning Lab computers
- Allowing opportunity for renewed credit for spelling corrections on tests, if the student’s diagnosis so dictates
- Explaining directions to complete tests or assignments
- Equipping students with appropriate strategies and skills to become self-directed and responsible
