Financial Aid

Southwest Christian School subscribes to the philosophy of need-based financial aid as opposed to merit-based scholarships. Consequently, no awards are made solely on the basis of academic, athletic or artistic ability. To receive financial aid a student’s family must demonstrate financial need. Financial aid is not granted to Early Childhood students.

Requirements:

1. Must be enrolled or accepted for admission to SCS.
2. Must exhibit exemplary citizenship and a positive classroom attitude reflected by above average grades
    in the core classes.
3. Must actively participate in the life of SCS.
4. Parents’ financial statement must show demonstrated financial need.
5. Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or have earned a 2.5 in the last semester. GPA below 2.5 may
result in the loss of F/A.

Guidelines:

1. No more than 50% tuition will be granted to any one student.
2. F/A is granted on a per student basis, not per family.
3. F/A is granted per year and must be applied for annually with all accounts current.
4. All F/A deadlines must be met.
5. Need must be shown.

Financial Aid distribution has historically represented approximately 5% of the annual operating budget for that year. Deadline to apply for financial aid is April 1, with notification of aid awards by early-May.

Policies:

Divorce - Because financial aid is based on a family’s ability to meet the cost of an education at SCS, a family will be defined as consisting of both natural parents of the applicant, plus any children from the original marriage, along with any children produced by the current marriage. The school will not be bound by the assertion of one parent that he/she is not responsible legally or otherwise for the educational expenses, including divorce decrees. Thus, both parents must provide the information that is requested on the Parents’ Financial Statement that is filed each year. If this information is not available at the time the application is evaluated, it may cause an arbitrary assessment of financial need to be made by the school. This may result in a lesser award or no award at all.

The financial aid contract will be sent to both parents, who must decide how to divide the parents’ contribution, and it will be both parents’ responsibility to ensure that SCS receives payment.

More Than One Applicant per Family – If more than one student in a family receives an award, but any of these students does not enroll, the amount of the award to the enrolling students will be reconfigured in accordance with the school’s financial aid procedures and the number of students in a family who actually enroll, whether or not any aid contracts have been signed.

Application Process:

1. If not already an SCS student, download the application for admission. Submit the application.
2. Apply for financial aid online at www.factstuitionaid.com or pick up an application from one of the
Admission offices. (Online is the quickest way available.) $25 fee.
3. Application must be submitted by April 1 to be considered in first-round financial aid placements.
4. If a student is accepted for admission, the enrollment fee of 10% will be required to save the student’s
place before financial aid awards are made. The enrollment fee will be completely refunded if the aid
amount is not sufficient for the student to enroll.

Competition for financial aid is significant. Limited funds may prevent the Financial Aid Committee from offering assistance to all qualified deserving applicants. Therefore students to whom financial assistance is awarded are expected to accept or decline the award within two weeks of notification. In the event the student fails to comply with this requirement, the Financial Aid Committee reserves the right to award the aid to an alternate candidate.

Please contact the Director of Admissions if you have questions concerning the financial aid process at 817-294-9596, extension 242.
